CMI PhD Admission 2024: CMI stands for Chennai Mathematical Institute, a centre of excellence for teaching and research in the mathematical sciences. It was founded as a part of the SPIC Science Foundation, funded by the SPIC group in Chennai and then it has been an autonomous institution.
Today, CMI is a rare example of public-private partnership in research and education in India, managed by a Governing Council consisting of eminent persons. The Institute receives major private funding, side by side with substantial financial support from the Government of India.
The institute offers courses in Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics from BSc to PhD. Every year the institute conducts separate exam for admission in different courses. Candidates can apply for CMI PhD 2024 through “Online” mode only. The Application Form in any other mode will not be accepted. And candidate can apply to any combination of their PhD programme i.e., Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics.
- If you apply for PhD Mathematics or PhD Computer Science, you must write the entrance exam for that programme.
- You can apply for PhD in Mathematics in combination with MSc Mathematics. There is a common entrance exam for both categories. You cannot apply to any other programme in combination with PhD Mathematics and
- You can apply for PhD in Computer Science in combination with MSc Computer Science. There is a common entrance exam for both categories. You cannot apply to any other programme in combination with PhD Computer Science.
CMI PhD Admission 2024 Eligibility Criteria
The candidates who are interested in writing CMI PhD 2024 can appear for the exam but before that the most important thing is to check Eligibility Criteria, so that it will be easy for all to learn whether they can appear in the selection process or not.
The institute has option for both full- time and Part- time PhD. The Part- time
students are admitted based on an entrance examination and an interview, like regular PhD students. Students must already have a Masters degree to be admitted to the part-time PhD programme. There is a minimum residency requirement of one semester during the first year of the programme.

Candidates applying to the PhD program in Physics should satisfy one of the following criteria:
- JEST: A rank of 400 or below in the Joint Entrance Screening Test in Physics. (Scorecard to be produced at the time of the interview.)
- UGC-CSIR NET: Have qualified Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) of CSIR with a rank of 200 or less. (A valid letter from CSIR-UGC to this effect is to be produced at the time of the interview. Those who have only qualified for the Lectureship are NOT eligible.)
- GATE: A rank of 100 or less in the GATE (valid GATE scorecard to be produced at the time of the interview.)

- Make your registration valid by verifying it through the your Email or mobile number.
- Go to the login link and insert registered details to access the online form.
- Recheck all filled details and click on the submit button.
- Pay fees through any of the convenient payment methods.
CMI PhD 2024 Application Fee:
The application fee is Rs 1000 or Rs 1200, depending on the combination of programmes that you apply for.
- Application fees must be paid online. You will find a link after you fill in your details in the application form.
